Child participation rights critical

The Child and Youth Led Organisations are currently holding their annual national conference in Marondera. The conference which began on the 29th of April and ending on the 5th of May is running under the theme, “From child participation rights to child participation realities.”

More than 150 children representing the junior parliament and junior councils nationwide attended this conference.

SAPST’s through its “child friendly budgeting project ” under Save the Children initiative had an opportunity to push one of the key project goals: Developing innovative ways for Child Participation in holding governments accountable for budgetary commitments.

Programme officer, Miss Natasha Ntini took time to train child representatives on how they can meaningfully and effectively engage with the Parliament of Zimbabwe. The main thrust of the presentation was to equip child led organisations with knowledge on how to participate and engage with Parliament during the entire budget cycle.

SAPST managed to take them through the budget cycle and highlighted entry points for children to voice their contributions towards the national budget.
